One of my favorite creations, and one of my firsts making rosettes…vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream frosting! It’s a classic flavor combination and my go-to when I want cake. I will say, I used A LOT of red and blue food coloring to get those deep colors. Too much!

Here are my favorite tested recipes of the week!

I’ve been wanting to try a recipe with frothy whipped coffee. I found Half Baked Harvest’s Frothy Whipped Coffee White Russian last weekend. The recipe recommends 1/4 cup of vodka for one drink, which I found to be too much for me. So, if you try it, start slow on the vodka. I wasn’t able to find that nice balance in flavors because I over poured. It’s a rich drink so I would use smaller glasses next time and split the recipe into two servings.

If you missed it, I made Blackberry Buttercream Frosting. Give it a try! It tastes great with both chocolate and vanilla cake.

I really wanted cake, and had a layer of chocolate cake in the freezer, so I made this mini dessert. Blackberry Buttercream goes really well with chocolate cake!

The thawed cake was super moist! Adding Simple Syrup to the cake before freezing really works!

The layers weren’t pretty since I didn’t have a large circular cutter but hey, buttercream is the great equalizer when decorating.

Voilà! My sweet tooth is happy.

Favorite Finds:

For those of us who are thinking of getting into a Harry Potter Marathon this weekend, The Hermoine Granger Cocktail.

Tis the weekend for Red Potato Salad!

A tasty one for the grill, Coffee Crusted Steak with Herbed Corn Salsa.

Bananas Foster Banana Bread with dark rum!

The smell of Grilled Focaccia Bread with Caramelized Onions and Garlic Butter will bring over the neighbors.

No time to bake an apple pie for the BBQ, try this Caramel Apple Crisp. Don’t forget the vanilla ice cream!

My favorite Sheet Pan Nachos by Damn Delicious, minus the jalapeños.

Start your morning with a Biscuit Breakfast Casserole from Sally’s Baking Addiction!

Even though we’ve all been in quarantine for the last two months, take a moment during the weekend BBQ to remember those who gave their lives to secure our freedoms. I am extremely fortunate and grateful every day. Have a safe weekend!

I was lucky enough to be involved in a documentary that shot at the Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. Pappy was kind enough to allow me to intrude on his very personal moment saying goodbye to the men he lost in Vietnam. This was a dream come true for Pappy and I was honored to be there with him.
